Dry skin brushing is a long standing tradition that has been practiced in many cultures around the world.  Our skin is our largest organ, and we often forget this simple technique that has the ability to improve the appearance of our skin as well as help cleanse the body of impurities. This practice helps stimulate blood circulation, increase lymphatic drainage and encourage detoxication and the elimination of waste from the body.

This is a quick and simple habit to be added to your daily routine with so many benefits.  Just five minutes a day and you’re on your way to looking and feeling better. A quick brush before your shower can cleanse and detoxify the body by stimulating the lymphatic system, boost the immune system and aid in more effective elimination of toxins.  Dry brushing also encourages better blood flow to all areas of the body by stimulating and awakening nerves and blood vessels, leaving the outer skin smooth and glowing, and the inner body refreshed.  Many people who do this regularly report a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and cellulite.

It’s important to brush properly.  Always use a natural bristle brush and begin at your feet.  Use small circular movements, working up towards the heart.  Once you have finished both legs, then move to the stomach and then back.  A brush with a long handle will help access the back and a smaller brush will help gently on the face. On the chest avoid sensitive areas like the nipples, and give extra attention to the armpits where we have a greater concentration of lymph nodes. Be sure to also take good care of your brushes.  Wash with a gentle soap and ensure brushes are fully dry between each use to avoid mold growth.

Spring is a great time to focus on cleansing with a time of renewal all around us. Adopting a new ritual during the seasonal change can help promote calmness and balance in the mind and body. Skin brushing is the perfect daily routine that will allow you to reap the benefits of self care without investing large amounts of time or energy.
